Tesla FSD Switzerland: TAD approval status

Tesla Assisted Driving, TAD (FSD), used to be called FSD Supervised. Switzerland are not in the EU. ASTRA class it as Level 2+. Test drives run under permit. There is no general approval for owners.

Test Drives Approved (Level 2)

Test drives under ASTRA permit only. Classed as Level 2+. No application for general approval yet. Driver must keep full attention.

Regulator: ASTRA (Federal Roads Office)

Last change: June 2026

What this means for owners: Nothing to switch on for ordinary owners. A permit for tests is not a customer release.

Switzerland Tesla FSD: is TAD available right now?

No, not for ordinary owners.

ASTRA say test drives with the system are running on a trial basis under an ASTRA permit. They also say there is currently no application for general approval.

So the tracker says Test Drives Approved (Level 2). Testing, not a customer release.

Who decides in Switzerland

ASTRA, the Federal Roads Office, are the federal authority for road transport and testing permits. My regulators page lists info@astra.admin.ch.

Swiss road traffic law is the frame, not the EU type-approval committee. Article 31 of the Road Traffic Act (SVG) says the driver must control the vehicle at all times and keep full attention on the road.

ASTRA class TAD (FSD) as Level 2+. Releasing the steering wheel is only allowed for legally approved Level 3 or higher systems.

Timeline

Date What happened Source
April 2026 The Dutch RDW grant a provisional EU type approval. That decision does not bind Switzerland. RDW (via Transportstyrelsen)
June 2026 ASTRA reply on TAD (FSD): Level 2+ classification, full attention required, test drives under permit, no general-approval application on file. ASTRA / Not an FSD Tracker
8 October 2026 Tesla rename FSD (Supervised) to Tesla Assisted Driving in the UK and Europe. Not an FSD Tracker
11 October 2026 My check: still test-drives-only on the tracker. No general approval announced. Not an FSD Tracker

What changes for owners

Nothing for normal customer use.

You cannot treat a Level 2+ system like Level 3. ASTRA are blunt about that. Distraction rules still apply.

Demo rides are listed for Switzerland on my demo rides page. A ride-along under Tesla's event programme is not a general approval.

You stay responsible for the car. TAD (FSD) is driver assistance.

Switzerland's own approval route (not the TCMV)

Switzerland are not in the EU. They do not vote at the TCMV.

Any FSD approval Switzerland give would come from a Swiss approval application to ASTRA, examined under Swiss road traffic law and road safety rules.

ASTRA say they are open to new technologies. If Tesla submit an application, ASTRA say they will examine it with interest, with clear customer communication about constant responsibility as a key point.

An EU-wide TCMV outcome may influence what manufacturers file in Switzerland. It does not switch the feature on for Swiss owners by itself.

FAQ

Is Tesla TAD (FSD) approved in Switzerland?

No general approval. ASTRA allow test drives under permit. The tracker says Test Drives Approved (Level 2). That is not a customer release.

Can I take my hands off the wheel?

No. ASTRA class TAD (FSD) as Level 2+. Releasing the steering wheel is only permitted for legally approved Level 3 or higher systems.

Does the Dutch or EU approval apply in Switzerland?

No. Switzerland are not in the EU. ASTRA decide under Swiss law. An EU committee vote doesn't automatically switch it on for Swiss roads.

Will ASTRA approve it for general use?

ASTRA say they are open to applications and will examine one with interest if Tesla file. As of the June 2026 reply, no general-approval application was on file.

Am I still responsible for the car?

Yes. Under Article 31 SVG the driver must keep full attention. TAD (FSD) does not move responsibility to the manufacturer at Level 2.
