Tesla FSD Supervised in Italy: Ministry Submission and Current Outlook

Italy is further along than a wait-for-EU framing alone would suggest. In July 2026, Tesla submitted formal Full Self-Driving (Supervised) documentation to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, and technical talks with regulators are underway. That ministry track sits alongside the earlier parliamentary inquiry, not instead of it.

Ministry review (Jul 2026)

Official confirmation from a senior ministry director general states that Tesla has lodged detailed FSD documentation and that discussions between the company and Italian authorities are active. This is a concrete national process: Italy is reviewing Tesla's submission under its own oversight while still operating inside the wider EU type-approval framework.

There is still no national customer approval. FSD Supervised is not available to Italian owners for regular use. The ministry review is progress, not a green light.

Parliamentary inquiry still open

Senator Carlo Calenda's formal parliamentary inquiry (Atto di Sindacato Ispettivo) remains part of the picture. It pressed the government on timelines, engagement with Tesla, and how Italy should treat the Dutch RDW precedent. That inquiry context still matters, but it no longer stands alone: the July ministry submission means regulators are now working from Tesla's formal filing, not only from parliamentary questions and EU-wait language.

What has not changed
