Tesla FSD Germany: TAD approval status
Tesla Assisted Driving, TAD (FSD), used to be called FSD Supervised. German owners still can't use it. Transport minister Steffen Bilger wants EU approval soon. For now the approval fight is in Brussels. The KBA haven't switched anything on for owners.

Germany Tesla FSD: is TAD available right now?
No. There is no customer release in Germany.
The Eifel supervised shuttle pilot carries on. That's a limited pilot. It isn't Hardware 4 owners switching it on across the country.
Bilger's October statement pushes for EU approval. It doesn't say Germany have recognised the Dutch file.
So the tracker still says Awaiting EU + Active Pilot.
Who decides in Germany
Two offices, two jobs.
The KBA handle type approval and automated driving permits. My regulators page lists af@kba.de.
The BMV set federal transport policy and speak for Germany in the EU process. Bilger's 6 October 2026 page is that political track.
Germany have not used the Article 39 national recognition route that seven other EU countries already used.

What changes for owners
Nothing for normal customer use.
A ministry push for EU approval is a useful signal. It isn't an FSD approval Germany have granted, and it isn't a software download.

You stay responsible for the car. Bilger said the driver stays 100% responsible. TAD (FSD) is driver assistance.
How Germany could vote at the TCMV
Germany have not published a formal committee ballot paper. Bilger's written line is clear enough on direction: approve across Europe soon, with the Assisted Driving name and a capped 10% speed offset.
Germany's size matters under qualified majority voting. A large member state arguing for a timely yes is useful for the maths. It is still not the same as a finished Commission act.
Same day as the BMV page, conference reporting (dpa via Heise) had Bilger saying that if an EU deal fails, Germany would need to discuss what can be done nationally. That national-fallback line is conference reporting, not the written BMV circular.
I think Germany will vote yes if the dossier matches the rename and 10% offset terms. That's my read, not a published ballot.

Earlier this year Tesla began operating Europe’s first public shuttle service using FSD (Supervised) in Germany’s Eifel region. The Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture announced the innovative pilot project.

What did Bilger agree with Tesla?
According to the BMV page of 6 October 2026, Tesla offered the name Tesla Assisted Driving, and Germany will support a maximum 10% speed offset in the EU process. The driver stays fully responsible.
Does the Dutch approval count in Germany?
No. Germany have not recognised the RDW Art. 39 provisional approval for ordinary owners. Seven other EU countries have used that national path. Germany have not.
When could German owners get TAD (FSD)?
No date. Watch for a TCMV vote (December 2026 at the earliest), a Commission implementing act, or any German recognition letter. Until one of those moves, there is nothing to switch on.
Am I still responsible for the car?
Yes. The BMV page says the driver stays 100% responsible. TAD (FSD) is driver assistance.
