Tesla FSD Austria: TAD approval status
Tesla Assisted Driving, TAD (FSD), used to be called FSD Supervised. It isn't available in Austria. BMIMI say they are waiting for the EU decision rather than running a separate national recognition of their own. And the AutomatFahrV fit is still under review.
BMIMI Infothek (7 Jul 2026): no separate national recognition of the Dutch RDW approval; waiting on the EU TCMV decision. AutomatFahrV fit still under review. No customer FSD.
Regulator: BMIMI (Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure); type approval mailbox Typengenehmigung@bmimi.gv.at
Last change: 7 July 2026
What this means for owners: Nothing to switch on. Ordinary owners can't activate it, and Austria have not opened a national shortcut.

Austria Tesla FSD: is TAD available right now?
No. There is no customer release in Austria.
On 7 July 2026 BMIMI published a note on the Dutch Article 39 approval. They said they are following the EU committee process, and that they are not running a separate national recognition of their own.
So the tracker says Awaiting EU TCMV: No Unilateral Decision. Same idea as Spain: no national shortcut, wait for Brussels.
Nothing for Austrian owners to press yet.
Who decides in Austria
BMIMI are the federal ministry for innovation, mobility and infrastructure. Type approval questions go to Typengenehmigung@bmimi.gv.at. My regulators page also points at AustriaTech for automated driving testing.
The Dutch RDW granted a provisional approval on 10 April 2026, under Article 39 of Regulation (EU) 2018/858. That is not yet an EU wide approval.
Separately, Austria have to check whether the system fits the Automatisiertes Fahren Verordnung, AutomatFahrV. BMIMI say that technical analysis is still being checked and evaluated.
So the FSD approval Austria are waiting on has two gates: the EU type approval decision, and the national AutomatFahrV fit. Neither has cleared for ordinary owners.

What changes for owners
Nothing for now.
Austrian owners can't activate TAD (FSD). That includes owners whose cars already have the hardware.
Even after an EU yes vote, Austria still have the AutomatFahrV question. BMIMI haven't said the existing rules already cover it.
You stay responsible for the car. TAD (FSD) is driver assistance.
No Tesla demo rides are listed for Austria on my demo rides page.
How Austria could vote at the TCMV
Austria have not published a final voting position.
The July BMIMI note is careful. They want systems that are safe and properly tested. They also say future mobility matters to them. That's not a yes or a no.
I think Austria are waiting for the committee paper trail rather than picking a fight early. That's my read, not a published position.
December at the earliest. The committee are in no rush.
FAQ
Can I use Tesla TAD (FSD) in Austria today?
No. There is no customer release in Austria. BMIMI are waiting on the EU process, and the AutomatFahrV fit is still under review.
Does the Dutch approval count in Austria?
Not for ordinary owners. BMIMI said on 7 July 2026 that they are not running a separate national recognition and will wait for the EU decision.
What is AutomatFahrV?
The Automatisiertes Fahren Verordnung, Austria's national rules for automated and assisted driving. BMIMI say they still need to finish checking whether Tesla's system fits those rules.
When could Austrian owners get TAD (FSD)?
No date. December 2026 is the earliest an EU wide TCMV vote can happen. Even then, Austria still have the AutomatFahrV question, and Tesla still have to enable the software.
Am I still responsible for the car?
Yes. TAD (FSD) is driver assistance, so you are responsible at all times.
