Prepare your Tesla for FSD Supervised launch in Europe

Steps to Prepare Your Tesla for FSD Launch in Europe

We are all expecting FSD Supervised approval on April 10th in the Netherlands, with other EU countries hopefully following quickly.

Here are the exact 7 things you should do this week (most take under 30 minutes and cost nothing) to prepare for FSD launch in April. This will give you the best chance to use FSD as soon as it is available.

1. Update to the latest software version

Tesla only enables FSD Supervised on certain software branches.

Action steps:

  • Go to Software and tap Check for updates.
  • Install 2026.2.9 or later.
  • Enable the Advanced download preference.

Pro tip: Schedule the update for overnight so your car is ready before the morning.

2. Deep-clean the cabin camera

This is the number one reason for cabin camera blocked warnings.

European FSD Supervised could be stricter on driver monitoring than the US version. A dirty or smudged cabin camera is the fastest way to get temporary restrictions.

How to clean it properly:

  • Use plain water and a microfibre cloth, or quality lens wipes.
  • Gently wipe the internal camera (above the rear-view mirror).
  • Remove any stickers, phone mounts, or tinted sun-strip that could obstruct the view.
  • Do not use glass cleaner with ammonia. It leaves a film.

Do this once a month going forward. Takes 2 minutes and eliminates many cabin-camera errors.

3. Clean all external cameras and sensors

FSD Supervised relies on approximately 9 cameras. European roads have more road markings, cyclists, and variable weather, so clean lenses make a measurable difference.

Quick checklist:

  • Front cameras
  • Pillar cameras (B-pillars). Wipe with water only.
  • Rear camera. Remove any dirt.
  • Side repeater cameras. Especially important for automatic lane changes.

4. Get a professional wheel alignment check

FSD (and even basic Autopilot) uses steering angle and wheel speed data. A slightly off alignment that you do not notice in daily driving could cause phantom braking or lane wandering once FSD Supervised is active.

What to do:

  • Book a 4-wheel alignment at any Tesla Service Centre or approved alignment shop (many EU owners report approximately 80 to 120 euros).
  • Ask them to print before/after readings.
  • If you have aftermarket wheels or lowered suspension, mention it. Tesla needs to know for the FSD calibration.

Do this before the FSD supervised update arrives.

5. Turn on maximum data sharing and follow best-practice data logging

Tesla has been very clear: the fastest way to get your country approved is more high-quality fleet data.

Exact settings:

  • Controls, Software, Data Sharing. Turn everything ON if you are comfortable.
  • Also enable Allow cabin camera analytics and Improve Autopilot.

Best practices while driving:

  • Take at least 3 to 4 longer drives per week on varied roads (motorways, city centres, roundabouts).
  • Let the car attempt automatic lane changes and parking. Even if you override, the data still helps.

6. Decide: Transfer your existing FSD or buy new? (Updated 2026 decision matrix)

Tesla is shifting globally toward a subscription-only model for new buyers. In Europe, one-time purchases are still available, but subscriptions are expected to become the default soon after launch.

Factor Transfer existing FSD Buy new FSD package (2026) Winner for most owners
Cost Free (no extra fee if you qualify) 7,500 to 12,000 euros (depending on country) Transfer
Eligibility Any car with original FSD purchase New purchase only Transfer
VAT / tax Any car with the original FSD purchase Full local VAT applies Transfer
Delivery deadline Flexible in Europe (no firm cutoff on most EU sites) Must act before one-time purchase ends Transfer

7. Run a full system calibration + test current Autopilot features

A fresh calibration makes the transition to FSD Supervised seamless.

How:

  • Drive on a straight, well-marked motorway for 20 to 30 minutes with Autopilot engaged.
  • The car will show Calibration in progress on the screen.
  • After calibration, test every current feature: Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, Traffic-Aware Cruise Control.

Fix any niggles now so they do not become FSD Supervised complaints later.
